NHS North Essex spends its money in a variety of ways, including:

  • GPs, pharmacists, opticians and dentists (who are all independent contractors)
  • NHS hospitals
  • Independent sector hospitals
  • Nursing homes
  • Other commercial organisations supplying clinical services
  • Voluntary organisations and third sector organisations supplying services
  • Commercial organisations supplying goods

In order to manage these arrangements, NHS North Essex has its own small Commercial Services Team that works closely with the NHS South Essex Procurement Team. The team also works in partnership with other organisations to purchase the goods and services it needs to meet the health needs of the local population, in the most clinically and cost effective way.

We also participate in collaborative contracting at regional and national level.
National contracts are provided by the NHS Supply Chain or the Government Procurement Service (formerly Office of Government Commerce)

The NHS North Essex Commercial Services Team tends to concentrate on the procurement support for commissioning of healthcare services, while the purchase of goods and equipment is usually undertaken on our behalf through contractual agreements.

All healthcare opportunities over £100,000 will be advertised on Supply2Health.  We may also use this website to advertise information events for potential providers.  Interested parties are advised to register on Supply2Health to ensure they are alerted to new opportunities.

The North Essex PCT Cluster conducts most of its procurements electronically through e-procurement.  Further information about e-procurement is available here and current opportunities can be viewed here.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Commercial Services Team on 01206 286923 or at nee-pct.commercialservices@nhs.net.
