Chris Paveley

Chairman, NHS North Essex

Chris Paveley was appointed as Chair to the NHS North Essex Cluster Board in December 2011 – Chris was previously the Chair at North East Essex PCT.

Chris Paveley joined NHS North East Essex as Chairman on 1st April 2010 and brings a wealth of experience in both the public and private sector to his new role.

Chris started work as an apprentice in West Thurrock Power Station and, having completed his indentures, went on to continue his training in Japan with the NEC Corporation.

On his return to the UK in 1983, Chris formed IT maintenance company, FLS, based in Laindon, eventually employing more than 250 staff. By 1997 he had become very interested in workplace education and economic development and joined the DTI Wings project, mentoring young entrepreneurs.

In 1998 he joined the board of Essex Training and Enterprise Council, becoming the chairman in 2000. In 2001 he joined the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) and later was appointed chairman of Essex and then in 2008 regional chairman of the LSC East of England. During the same period he was a board member of the East of England Development Agency and the Thames Gateway South Essex Partnership.

Currently Chris is a board member of the Thurrock Urban Development Corporation, the Government Office of the East of England and chairman of the Regional LSC and Firstsite Visual Arts Facility (Colchester). He also holds a number of non-executive posts with local and national private companies.

Chris who is relishing the fresh challenge has said: “The NHS plays a vital part in all our lives at some point or another so it is a great honour to be appointed chairman of NHS North Essex. I am looking forward to working closely with my new board and with our many partner organisations to help ensure we are in a position to provide the best possible levels of healthcare to local people.”

Chris, 58, is married and has one son who is a parasitologist and research fellow at the London School of Tropical Diseases where he researches drugs to cure diseases such as malaria.
